Metro E-WAN is PLDT’s Metro Ethernet solution for multi-site Ethernet connectivity requirements. It is a Domestic Virtual Private Networking (VPN) solution that enables multipoint-to-multipoint high-bandwidth connectivity between any number of geographically dispersed branches.
Metro E-WAN is categorized as a Layer 2 VPN, with the following unique characteristics:
Metro E-WAN offers a layer-2 switched solution approach that provides complete separation between PLDT’s network and the customer’s network - there is no route exchange between PLDT’s Provider Edge (PE) devices and the Customer Edge (CE) devices.
PLDT’s network transparently carries customers’ traffic from one site to another in Layer 2 Frames, enabling transport of any Layer 3 protocols that the customer is using, including both IP (e.g. IPv4, IPv6) and non-IP (e.g. SNA, IPX, DECNet, etc).

Service Platform
PLDT Metro E-WAN makes use of PLDT’s IP Backbone at the core, to enable VPLS (Virtual Private LAN Service) capability. This enables the any-to-any Layer 2 Ethernet connectivity across multiple sites.
PLDT MSAP network is used in Metro E-WAN’s case as an access network, to reach and extend the capabilities of IP Backbone (i.e. L2 VPN connectivity via VPLS) to the client’s remote sites.
